KOMEN CONNECTICUT ANNOUNCES TOP FUNDRAISERS AND VOLUNTEERS IN THE LOCAL FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER FARMINGTON – April 8, 2011 – In recognition of National Volunteer Month, the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® announces its top volunteers and fundraisers of 2010. The announcement came during the organization’s Power of Pink Reception, an awards ceremony recognizing and celebrating the passion and generosity of its community supporters. Also announced during the reception was Komen Connecticut’s $1 Million investment in the breast health of Connecticut through its local grants program, a contribution made possible in part by these community supporters. Combined, these community members raised more than $1.3 Million in the local fight against breast cancer and donated countless hours of their time to the Affiliate. Volunteer honorees include: Nancy Sousa of Wethersfield, RuthAnn Lobo Award Cheryl Udin of Bolton, Patti Bradshaw Award Fundraising honorees include: 2010 Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure Pratt & Whitney Patty Fox of West Hartford Strength Providers - $25,000+ Raised through Community Events Hawk’s Landing Country Club, Southington Norwalk River Rowing Association Tommy Sullivan’s Cafe Also recognized was Tumble Brook Country Club of Bloomfield for their continued support in the fight against breast cancer. The club received Komen Connecticut’s top award, The Cure Finder Award, two years ago for raising over $1 million for the Affiliate with their Play for a Cure Golf and Tennis Tournament. The country club is the only group to receive the honor to date and was honored this year by Governor Rell for their contribution to Connecticut’s fight against breast cancer. Komen for the Cure® Komen for the Cure’s presence in Connecticut began in 1994 with a Race for the Cure. The local organization was incorporated as an Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1999. Komen Connecticut serves local communities by providing funding for research and local life-saving programs which address education, screening and treatment for Connecticut residents. In 2011, Komen Connecticut invested over $1 Million locally, providing funding to 19 Connecticut breast health programs.
