DR. DAVID GRUEN JOINS KOMEN CONNECTICUT BOARD OF DIRECTORS FARMINGTON – January 5, 2011 - The Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is pleased to announce that David Gruen, MD, of Weston, is joining the Board of Directors. Gruen is the Director of Women’s Imaging at Danbury Hospital, Connecticut Women’s Imaging and Danbury Radiology Associates, P.C, and a nationally recognized expert on breast cancer detection, including mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI, and minimally invasive breast biopsy. Gruen, who received both his Bachelor of Arts and Doctoral degrees from Cornell University, will serve as the Board’s Fairfield County representative, a region that Komen Connecticut has identified as an area of focus for its statewide work. According to a 2004-2008 study done by the CT Tumor Registry, six of the top ten towns with the highest average number of cases of female breast cancer per year are in Fairfield County, a startling statistic that will be addressed with Gruen’s guidance and expertise. Gruen, the only radiologist on the Board, is particularly excited about joining the Komen Connecticut team, as he is currently working with the American College of Radiology to rewrite the practice guidelines for imaging management of in situ and invasive breast cancers.
