$1 MILLION INVESTMENT IN CONNECTICUT’S BREAST HEALTH ANNOUNCED

Komen Connecticut Celebrates its Past, Present and Future
by Awarding Grants to the Community, Kicking off 2011 Race for the Cure

FARMINGTON – April 8, 2011 – For the second year in a row, the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is investing over $1 Million in Connecticut’s breast health through its community grants program. This most recent contribution brings the organization’s total investment in Connecticut to more than $21 Million throughout its 18 year history, supporting local research, education, screening and treatment program for women and their families across Connecticut.

The announcement was part of an awards ceremony recognizing and celebrating the organization’s top fundraisers, passionate volunteers and community supporters who helped make such an investment possible.

“These grants allow us to fund the unmet breast health needs of women in Connecticut,” said Anne Morris, executive director of Komen Connecticut. “Until we find the cures for breast cancer, early detection is our best way to reduce mortality rates for the disease. Granting to organizations in Connecticut and targeting women in our communities allows us to focus the impact we’re making on a local level.
