$1 MILLION INVESTMENT IN CONNECTICUT’S BREAST HEALTH ANNOUNCED Komen Connecticut Celebrates its Past, Present and Future FARMINGTON – April 8, 2011 – For the second year in a row, the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is investing over $1 Million in Connecticut’s breast health through its community grants program. This most recent contribution brings the organization’s total investment in Connecticut to more than $21 Million throughout its 18 year history, supporting local research, education, screening and treatment program for women and their families across Connecticut. The announcement was part of an awards ceremony recognizing and celebrating the organization’s top fundraisers, passionate volunteers and community supporters who helped make such an investment possible. “These grants allow us to fund the unmet breast health needs of women in Connecticut,” said Anne Morris, executive director of Komen Connecticut. “Until we find the cures for breast cancer, early detection is our best way to reduce mortality rates for the disease. Granting to organizations in Connecticut and targeting women in our communities allows us to focus the impact we’re making on a local level.” The following local organizations are receiving funding from Komen Connecticut for the 2011/2012 grants cycle: CancerCare of Connecticut, Norwalk Komen Connecticut will begin raising funds for its next grants cycle through the 2011 Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure, the organization’s signature fundraiser, which was also officially launched during last night’s festivities. The local organization was incorporated as an Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1999. Komen Connecticut serves local communities by providing funding for research and local life-saving programs which address education, screening and treatment for Connecticut residents. In 2011, Komen Connecticut invested over $1 Million locally, providing funding to 19 Connecticut breast health programs.
